Can you take out a second mortgage whilst under debt review – even if your home loan is not allocated under DebtSafe?

Hi there,

Thank you for your question.

The National Credit Act prohibits you from incurring any further credit while you are under debt review. We recommend that you rather work on paying of your debt faster. Pay a little extra on some accounts, focus on the smaller amounts and start setting them one by one. Also remember to negotiate for a better settlement value when there is not much left on an account. Once you receive your clearance certificate and have the means to afford the repayment you can apply for a loan.

Furthermore, in debt review all your debt must be included, that means that your home loan should be part of your debt review. The only debt that may be excluded from your debt review is the ones where legal action has already been taken before applying for debt review.

Kind regards.
