Judgements

Annoe asked 1 year ago

Dear Sir/Madam,

I had 2 judgements in my name. The one account was settled in January and the other March. I have sent the different credit bureaus the settlement letters as the accounts are now closed.

How long can the process take of removing these judgements? So far with Experian, the judgements are removed but are still there with the other credit bureaus.

Hi there,

The Amendments to the National Credit Act shortened the retention periods on credit information. If you settle a judgment debt, it should be removed immediately from your credit profile. In the past, a judgment could remain for 5 years.

If the information is still showing on your profile, you also have the right to dispute it. Lodge a complaint directly with the relevant credit bureau in this regard.

If you still find that the information is not removed after 20 business days, you can escalate the matter to the Credit Ombud.

Kind regards
