What Happens When My Salary Gets Paid into My Bank Account

Questions & AnswersCategory: Debt ReviewWhat Happens When My Salary Gets Paid into My Bank Account
Anonymous asked 3 years ago

Hi,

I have recently made the decision to join the debt review process.

I was just wondering; if I have an overdraft on my account, does this mean that when my salary gets paid in I won’t have any funds available?

I’ve asked my relationship manager this question and she hasn’t provided me with a response.

Please let me know.

Hi there,

Thank you for getting in touch.

Your overdraft facility will be handled as a “loan” type debt when in the debt review process. When the bank receives a notification of your application for debt review they will terminate the credit facility and wait to receive a payment proposal.

I would suggest that you open a new bank account with a bank which you do NOT owe any money. Ask the HR department at your work to transfer your salary to the new bank account.

There is a risk that if your salary gets paid into the overdraft account the bank will see it as a payment on the account. We will then have to contact them to negotiate a refund of your salary. By opening a new bank account you will save a lot of trouble admin wise, and in doing so ensure that your salary is safe.

Hope this answer was helpful.
