Lungani nzimande asked 6 months ago

2012 someone used my details to open an account for Joshua Doore and took some furniture. Then I was blacklisted from that now I just need to know when will my name be cleared from national credit act? I heard that after 5 years bad record is cleared, is that true?

Hi,

Thank you for getting in touch.

If you suspect fraud through identity theft you will have to inform the police, the South African Fraud Prevention Services (SAFPS), the Credit Ombud as well as the credit bureaus soonest.

The credit bureaus will only remove adverse information and judgement listings from a consumer’s credit profile if the amount owed has been settled, it will not go away on its own – the retention period for default listings is 12 months, while administration and sequestration orders have been reduced to 5 years.

Hope this information helps.
