Yesterday I did an enquiry for debt review. I told the lady I do not want to join as yet, I just wanted to know approximately how much I will pay if I join the debt review. She sent me assessment forms and I filled it in, she phoned me back and told me the amount. I then said okay. Today I decided that I do not want to be under debt review as I only have 2 clothing accounts that I am not paying but I decided to make arrangements with them. I have a financed vehicle and 2 other accounts my credit card and Homechoice that I am paying on time and in full every month – I am not in arrears.
I have heard a lot about debt review, that the balance never goes down etc, so I decided to ask them to cancel my debt review. Mind you a relationship manager was not yet assigned to me as I only spoke to them yesterday. I did not give my banking details as yet. I do not want to put my other accounts at risk as they are not in arrears. Now the lady says to me that I will still appear to be under debt review on my credit profile. What do I do to take that off as I have not even started paying the debt review people.
Thank you for getting in touch.

Regarding your credit profile: Once you enter the Debt Review program it can only be removed from your credit record when you receive a Clearance Certificate, this happens when either:
1. you have brought arrears up to date and are able to pay original instalments, or
2. if your debt has been settled.
When you have reached one of the above you can request your Clearance Certificate, which will then be sent to your creditors and the credit bureaus – who are then required to remove any negative information from your name.
