Debt Counselling

Rubin asked 8 months ago

Good day,

I applied for Debt Counselling in 2010 and I paid 2-3months in instalments, but my debt never got less. So I spoke to them and said that they take the first payments for them…so I stopped paying.

It’s been years now, think 6-7 years now and it still comes up-what does the law say about this time frame and how could I get it cleared.

Thanks

Good day,

Thank you for getting in touch.

If you cancel debt review before receiving your Clearance Certificate your debt review will be listed on your credit profile until a Clearance Certificate (Form 19) is issued. This can only happen when;

1. you have brought arrears up to date and are able to pay original instalments, or
2. if your debt has been settled.

Once you have achieved one of the above you can contact your Debt Counsellor to request a Clearance Certificate. That will then be used to clear your credit record, and thus removing your debt review listing from your credit record.

Kind regards
