I would like to inquire about debt review. I have been on debt review since 2013. I had all my accounts on debt review. But then my husband was unemployed and there were Standard Bank and MFC that terminated my accounts from debt review so I was paying this off on my side. I am still paying. I have settled all my accounts that were on debt review last year. But the debt counsellor said that I should settle all the Standard Banks first before they can assist with a clearance certificate to remove my name from debt review. How does this work? Is this true or is there something else I can do?
Thank you for your question.
Your debt review will be listed on your credit profile until a Clearance Certificate is issued, this can only happen when;
1. you have brought all arrears up to date and are able to pay original instalments, or
2. if all your debt has been settled.
If you have reached one of the above your debt counsellor should issue you with a Clearance Certificate.
Also, any debt counsellor can issue a Clearance Certificate, so if you are having trouble you can contact us – keep in mind, there will be a small admin fee involved to issue the Clearance Certificate.
Hope this info helps.
