Hi,

I applied for a debt review last year and now I just settled all my accounts with my DC I’m just waiting for a clearance certificate.

After that will my name automatically be cleared or I still need to find a lawyer to go to court and remove my name from being under ‘debt review’?

Good day,

Thank you for getting in touch, and well done on completing your Debt Review!

When you receive your Clearance Certificate your Debt Counsellor will send the certificate to your creditors and the credit bureaus. They are then required by law to remove the adverse information and debt review listing from your name – you don’t have to get a lawyer to do that.

We would suggest that you pull your credit record (which you can do for free once a year) one month after receiving your Clearance Certificate. If there are still adverse information on your credit report then you can contact your Debt Counsellor to sort it out for you, or you can dispute the information with the credit bureaus where the information is still incorrect.

Hope this info helps.
