Answer for Clearance Certificate

Hi there,

Thank you for your question.

Once the clearance certificate is issued, the credit bureaus have 5 working days in which they must expunge from their records any information pertaining to the fact that you were subject to a debt review.

If you have cancelled your debt review before the clearance certificate was issued the flag on your credit record cannot be removed before the following:

  1. You have brought arrears up to date and are able to pay original instalments, or
  2. if your debt has been settled.

In both cases it is also important to check that there are no outstanding debt counsellor fees. There are new regulations that keep the debt review flag on your profile if there are outstanding debt counsellor fees.

If you have completed the above we would suggest that you contact your debt counsellor and provide them with paid-up letters for all the accounts. Ask them to issue you with a clearance certificate. It should not take more than 2 weeks for them to confirm the information before issuing a clearance certificate.

Kind regards.
